Stonegate Legal is a specialist law firm, providing a wide range of legal services for the individual. We are based in modern, accessible offices at Thorpe Park, Leeds and act for a wide range of high net worth and vulnerable clients.

We are dedicated to the protection of our clients’ family wealth and our services are built around that objective. As such, we provide the usual non-contentious private client offerings such as wills, probate and trusts but specialise in the contentious aspects of both court of protection and probate proceedings.

We are members of the Public Guardian’s Professional Panel of Deputies which means we act for some of society’s most vulnerable people. We have a strong reputation for dealing with financial abuse, s.18 MCA applications and inter-jurisdictional issues (including adult abduction cases).

Litigation (Trusts and Probate)

Solicitor / Chartered Legal Executive

We are recruiting for a Litigation Solicitor, experienced in trust and probate litigation, to join our fast growing team.  The role will be wide ranging, supporting the work of the directors in contentious property, probate and trust litigation.  Candidates will need to have experience of managing a varied workload and have achieved, or be working towards, ACTAPS membership.

In addition to the technical skills required, the role requires a candidate with exceptional communication skills. Putting the client first is at the heart of Stonegate Legal’s success.  The role requires someone that can handle robust negotiations and family communication, whilst also being empathetic and demonstrating an understanding of the client’s needs.

We are looking for:

  • Experience of dealing with trusts and probate litigation
  • Experience of dealing with property litigation
  • Experience of dealing with mediated disputes
  • A pro-active, conscientious approach and the ability to work on your own initiative
  • A team player with strong communication skills and professional telephone manner
  • Excellent IT skills.
  • Strong time management and the ability to work to deadlines
  • Experience of working in a legal environment and client care procedures

Preferred but not essential:

  • An established network of professional and charity contacts. Whilst “a following” is not a prerequisite, it is expected that the successful lawyer will have their own network of professional contacts and be excited about the opportunity to work collaboratively with the directors to generate their own instructions for Contentious Trust and Probate Cases

Court of Protection

Solicitor / Chartered Legal Executive

We are recruiting for a Court of Protection practitioner, experienced in either health and welfare and/or property and affairs deputyships.  The role will be wide ranging, supporting the work of the directors in non-contentious and contentious Court of Protection cases including court proceedings.

Acting for clients who lack capacity to make specific decisions, usually in relation to emotive issues, requires the ideal candidate will have exceptional communication skills and be able to manage affairs in a sensitive and empathetic manner, with the goal of achieving best interests focused outcomes for vulnerable individuals.  The role will include the day to day management of complex Court of Protection cases supported by a team of experienced solicitors, chartered legal executives and paralegals.

We are looking for:

  • Experience of dealing with the Court of Protection and managing vulnerable clients
  • Experience of dealing with mediated disputes
  • A pro-active, conscientious approach and the ability to work on your own initiative
  • A team player with strong communication skills and professional telephone manner
  • Excellent IT skills.
  • Strong time management and the ability to work to deadlines
  • Experience of working in a legal environment and client care procedures

Paralegal

We are currently recruiting for a Paralegal to join our fast growing team.  The role will be wide ranging, supporting the work of the executive team in court of protection, care funding, powers of attorney, Wills, probate and trust matters.  It will require you to deal directly with clients, draft documents and progress court and benefit assessment processes including attendance at court and assessment meetings.

We are looking for:

  • University graduate (minimum 2:1)
  • A pro-active, conscientious approach and the ability to work on your own initiative
  • A team player with strong communication skills and professional telephone manner
  • Excellent IT and writing skills.
  • Strong time management and the ability to work to deadlines
  • Experience of working in a legal environment and client care procedures

Preferred but not essential:

  • Experience of dealing with vulnerable clients
  • Litigation experience
  • Familiarity with Proclaim
  • An awareness of investment products and financial management
  • Experience of dealing with Wills, Trusts and Probate
  • Experience of dealing with benefit assessments and entitlements
